I woke up to the conch being blown. “Eric, come on! Ralph
blew the conch!” Sam yelled excitedly. Then Sam grabbed my arm and led me to
the conch. Ralph was saying we were trapped on an island and needed rules. Before
that, the scary guy, Jack, stabbed the trunk. Then the big kid, Piggy I think,
seemed pale and said that we were trapped! I was fine as long as I had Sam with
me. Then Ralph said this Island was a good island and I felt better already. Then
this six year old talked about this snake- thingie, a beastie. I was scared
when I heard about the beastie and I saw Sam shake a little. He was probably
cold. But then Ralph said that the beastie could only existed in the bigger
places like Africa. I sighed in relief. The chief is right; there is no way a
beastie could be here. That’s why I like Ralph as leader. He is wickedly cool. I
heard the group making fun of the kid and Sam said, “He was dreaming.” Then
there was more yelling between us. All of a sudden, Ralph shouted, “There isn’t
a beast!” We were all quiet. Even for us! We usually would have shouted or make
a joke but for some reason we stayed silent. “Now we come to the most important
thing. I’ve been thinking. I was thinking while we were climbing the mountain. And
on the beach just now. This is what I thought. We want to have fun. And we want
to be rescued,” he said, grinning. Some kids mumbled yes and others like me and
Sam just nodded. “We want to be rescued; and of course we shall be rescued.”
When he said that, I felt a little happier and grinned to my brother, who
grinned back. Ralph then talked about how his daddy would come and save. That
right there brought me hope and happiness. When he finished we all began to
clap and cheer. He then said something about lighting a fire to signal and we
all stood up and followed Jack. Finally, when Ralph got to us, me and Sam were
ordered to find wood. It took us awhile but we were able to find a good one. We
were also the first! I felt pride swell inside of me. Then both of us went to
find dried leaves, since they are easily burnable. We came back with our arms filled and dropped
them on the pile. Then we had a problem. We had no matches! Then Piggy finally
made it to us, saying something about the pile being big. “His specs–use them
as burning glasses!” Jack shouted. We surrounded Piggy and Jack snatched his
glasses from him. Jack handed the glasses to Ralph, who positioned it on the
pile till it burned! Wicked! Then the fire started to go out! Sam and I ran
around the place looking for fresh logs or plainly anything! We continued to
pile the stack until the fire was safe. Phew! Wait no it went out. Awww. Then
the group started to argue. Honestly, I wanted to sleep. I didn’t pay attention
to what Ralph or Jack was saying I was just tired. I heard applause and my brother
and I started to clap. I looked to my brother’s face and he had a look of
praise on it. I yawned and let my eyes rest. Then I heard cheers from everyone
and opened my eyes to see what was happening. There was a firing going! I
quickly stood up and cheered with everyone else. Nut then the fire continued
and didn’t stop Sam and I stopped cheering and watched the fire silently. Sam
and I looked at each other and giggled. “We wanted smoke–”
“Now look–!” we
said. Then we all started to laugh, ignoring Piggy. Piggy started to shout
about shelters and we all looked to him. Then Piggy, Ralph, and Jack started to
argue. It was getting boring. All of a sudden the tree blew and the creepers
flew way high! Then I heard Piggy say,
“That little ’un that had a mark on his face–where is–he
now? I tell you I don’t see him.” That got me scared. Did the beastie get him?
Did it exist? Did Ralph lie to us? Right now I didn’t care. I was tired and
scared. And so was my brother.
I Stabbed the trunk because i had to. It was either the trunk or Ralph
